As expected, legendary Welsh crooner Tom Jones covered the Arctic Monkeys at the Diana Memorial concert yesterday.
Jones told the 64,000 at Wembley Stadium that he was going to do “something a little different” and “something new” before he launched into a cringe-worthy rendition of ‘I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor.’
Elsewhere during the mammoth seven hour concert, Lily Allen performed her hits ‘LDN’ and ‘Smile’, while Kanye West rattled through his tracks ‘Jesus Walks’, ‘Gold Digger’, ‘Stronger’ and ‘Touch The Sky.’
P Diddy went for the emotional avenue, telling the audience: “10 years ago Princess Diana went to a better place. Today we celebrate her rebirth- I dedicate this song to you.” He then performed ‘I’ll Be Missing You.’
Continuing in his tribute, he said that Diana was “so beautiful and so elegant” and then paid his respect to her two sons saying: “Prince William and Prince Harry we love and respect you.”
Other acts that performed on the day included Pharrell Williams, Joss Stone, The Feeling, Duran Duran and Take That.
Sir Elton John provided the climax of proceedings, but decided to stay away from ‘Candle In The Wind’ so things could remain upbeat.

- I think there is no doubt: Sir Tom Jones is pure gold!

- I am guessing you know very little about music! In his 40+ years as a performer, Tom Jones has remained on top, & has never done anything ”cringe-worthy” in his life! Didn’t look like the audience thought this either, & next, you better check your poll!

- Lisa, what the be-jeebus are you on about, the cover was TERRIBLE! Tom Jones may well be a solid gold performer, but his ”soulful” rendition of ”... Dancefloor” was slap-dash and so obviously under-rehearsed. And what about Aerosmith’s Joe Perry making a guest appearance on guitar? He looked embarrassed and rightly so!

- No way was this ’cringe-worthy’. Tom put his mark on the song and made it his own. His voice is fantastic and he looked great. How many other 67 year old performers would do something as innovative as this?

- I have listened to Tom’s version as well as the Arctic Monkeys - with Tom you can understand what he is singing - the more I listen to his version the more I like it. Way to go Tommy
