Jesus And Mary Chain Make Their UK Return

The Jesus And Mary Chain played their first UK gig in nine years at Jarvis Cocker's Meltdown festival on Friday night.

The influential Scottish band played 20 songs, including a couple of new offerings, during their set at the Royal Festival Hall.

They were joined on stage by The Duke Spirit’s Leila Moss, who joined the band for classic single ‘Just Like Honey’ after travelling up from Glastonbury especially.

She told BBC 6 Music, “Someone mentioned it on an email a couple of days ago, no one said for sure. Then at half seven last night I got a text saying 'game on'. Very weird - obviously some musical heroes."

The band's original drummer Bobby Gillespie and his now sometime Primal Scream associate Kevin Shields were in the audience.

William Reid also revealed the band were planning to headline themselves at London’s Brixton Academy in September.

    • The Mary chain are still the greatest band, the sound was excellent, the songs were brilliant. I expected old men to walk out and try their best what we got was stunning. A massive wall of sound that made your ears ring for hours after, it was like going back to the 70’s, im so glad i did not go to Glasto. Thank you guys you were brilliant
