The Broken Family Band - ‘Love Your Man, Love Your Woman'
starstarno starno starno star

The Broken Family Band have established a reputation for producing sterling country tinged indie rock. So the snappy guitar and thudding drums of ‘Love Your Man, Love Your Woman’ comes as a surprise. It appears the band’s drinks have been spiked with a heavy dose of testosterone, letting the band rock out with an enthusiasm and gusto previously lacking. The results are rather mixed. While the constant drive of the track is admirable, it also means that the single is lacking any of the gentle subtlety formerly found. Instead, it’s simply another nondescript indie number.

That would be forgivable if there was something else to lift the song but the lyrics here are lacking in any real substance. The opening couplet of  “You’ve got more than enough, you still want more stuff” is up there with the moon in June style of rhymes and frontman Steve Adams voice is weak throughout. Much more fun is the b-side, a dance heavy remix by the Rogue Element that’s a zesty floor filler. However, the A-side suggests that the band’s new rockier direction may have steered them off course.

Released 18/06/07 on Track & Field.
