“How are things on the west coast?” Paul Banks sounds uncertain on Interpol’s new single – the first to be taken off their soon-to-be-acclaimed (trust us) third album, ‘Our Love To Admire.’ As ambiguous as he is, however, he also sounds gloriously enlightened and borderline loved-up. Yes, you read right. The vocally morose Interpol seem to have found themselves on, ‘The Heinrich Maneuver.’ “Today my heart swings / Yeah today my heart swings. But I don't want to take your heart /And I don't want a piece of history,” muses Banks, with such sincerity you’d have thought he’d just met his childhood sweetheart.
As a band, Interpol have managed to sound even more infused than ever thanks to a catchy concoction of indie guitar riffs and Carlos D’s moustache tickling bass lines. The music is edgy, intense and spine-tingly brilliant. So…How are things on the west coast? Well, more than adequate actually.
Released 02/07/07 on Parlophone Records
