GonzalesI have to declare an interest here.  I don’t know Mr. Gonzales or any of his relatives personally but I am an absolute sucker for moody solo piano tunes.   The piano is after all, after the kazoo of course, the most fantastic instrument there is.  Being a fan of solo piano, Gonzales’ latest imaginatively titled album obviously floats my boat.

The sixteen ‘pieces’ are short (the longest being 3.24) and sound a little like the plethora of piano film tracks that have their own special section amongst my CD racks.  These tunes would be comfortable appearing in films such as Betty Blue and Amelie, and would be great as the background music for the moments when Woody Allen takes a gorgeous woman (usually Dianne Keaton) for a walk.

Gonzales (I’m not sure of his first name but I bet it isn’t something like Colin or Alan) took a break from the trip hoppy, hip poppy world he normally inhabits to compose these sixteen songs in Paris (where else?!)

Treat yourself and make these Satiesque songs a soundtrack to your life.  Play them as you drive to work, dry the dishes, stare out of the window or kick your scuffed shoes through the piles of dying leaves.  You’ll find yourself wondering.
