Cat Power has been named as the winner of the Shortlist Music Prize for her album ‘The Greatest.’
The acclaimed singer is the first woman to win the coveted award, which is now in its sixth year.
She beat the likes of Beirut, Bonnie Prince Billy, Hot Chip, Band of Horses, Joanna Newsom
and Tom Waits to scoop the gong.
The Shortlist Prize honours musicians who have sold under 500,000 albums in the US and the list of nominees is selected from a host of famous faces in the industry.
Amongst those who nominated were The Flaming Lips’ Wayne Coyne, KT Tunstall, Panic! At The Disco and members of Franz Ferdinand.
Sigur Ros won the first ever award when it was formed in 2001.
