Rolling Stones Make Euphoric Festival Comeback

The Rolling Stones rolled back the year’s at the Isle Of Wight Festival last night (June 10th) as they made their first UK festival appearance for thirty-one years.

Taking to the stage, the band were relentless from the outset, opening with a powerful rendition of ‘Start Me Up,’ which was soon juxtaposed with the more recent, ‘Rough Justice.’

Frontman Mick Jagger was in fine form during the show, even joking with the audience about the extortionate prices of confectionary on the Seaclose Park site. He said: “Two quid for a bottle of water, four quid for a burger and a dog ate my dope.”

As Gigwise suggested on Saturday, the band were indeed joined by Amy Winehouse for a cover of The Temptations’, ‘Ain’t Too Proud To Beg'. The soul diva had stayed on the island especially following her own performance on Saturday afternoon.

Paolo Nutini – who had himself delivered an impressive set earlier in the day – also joined the rockers for their infamous blues track 'Love In Vain.' Nutini looked overcome by the whole experience and was warmly embraced by the band before he left the stage.

The highlight of the show saw the whole band – Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood and Charlie Watts – all transported into the 65,000 strong audience on a giant platform during ,’Miss You.’

As the platform failed to retract back to the stage, however, the band also decided to deliver, ‘I Can’t Get No (Satisfaction),’ from amongst the audience.

After rattling off more hits from their back catalogue, The Stones ended this year’s festival with a raucous version of ‘Jumping Jack Flash.’ The post-show fireworks seemed tame by the bands phenomonal performance.
