David Bowie and The Beastie Boys both scooped top gongs at the Webby Awards in New York last night.
Billed as the online version of The Oscars, Bowie was handed the Lifetime Achievement gong for his pioneering website BowieArt and his digital company UltraStar.
The awards famously limits acceptance speeches to just five words to cut out all the dross. Bowie cocked his up, saying: “I only get five words? Shit, that was five. Four more there. That's three. Two.”
The Beasties achieved the Artist of Year award for their recent digital project ‘Awesome: I Fukin Shot That’. They joked in their ‘speech’ “Can somebody fix my computer?”
Another winner on the night was video site the YouTube, whose founders Chad Harley & Steve Chen were handed the Person on the Year award.
In typical Oscars style, there were countless categories – of which we can’t be arsed going into.
