Regina Spektor - ‘On The Radio’

Regina Spektor - ‘On The Radio’

Regina Spektor makes her bid to get on the radio with this sterile ballad. The songstress has a beautiful voice, of that there is no question, but this single seems to be an attempt to break the mainstream by taking away any edge she has. The cracked beauty we have come to know is noticeably absent. Set against a lilting piano, 'On The Radio' goes nowhere slowly and sounds almost like a sub-Vanessa Carlton (remember her) pop ballad. The b-side ‘Samson’ is a lot better; the same voice/piano set up but delivered with real passion and verve. The power of ‘Samson’ nearly rescues this release from poppy anonymity.  A half disappointment.

Released 28/05/07 on Warner Records
