A film about the life of Joy Division front man Ian Curtis has wowed critics at the Cannes Film Festival.
The film, entitled ‘Control,’ stars unknown actor Sam Riley and tells of the tragically cut short life of the Joy Division front man who commit suicide, aged 23.
Directed by Anton Cordijn – who photographed the band early on in his career - the black and white bio-pic is set in a tough 1970’s England and portrays the highs and ultimately the depressed lows which led Curtis to end his own life.
Riley – who was plucked out of obscurity for the role – said about the film: “I didn't know all that much about him, I knew what happened to him, and I knew some of the music, but it wasn't until I started researching it that I really got to know what was going on."
It is not yet known when the film will become commercially available.
