Band Of Horses - The Funeral (Kids) Released 21/05/07

One thing that Ben Bridwell certainly can’t be accused of being is wasteful or irresponsible. After the break up of previous band Carissa’s Weird, Bridwell along will Mat Brooke ( later to leave the band ), Rob Hampton (guitar/bass) and Creighton Barrett (Drums), formed the group Band of Horses - a troop whose individual qualities perfectly linked to showcase their individual version of atmospheric indie-pop. Their latest single release ‘The Funeral’, taken from their debut album ‘Everything All The Time’, is one of the highlights from the album and with beautifully emotive lyrics and melodies, glides smoothly along without effort or resistance.

Hampton initiates the start of a magical procession of musical graft with a beguiling guitar sequence that is quite mesmerising. Bridwell, despite previously being consigned to the drums in his previous outfit, has launched into a change of roles with ‘Band of Horses’ and comfortably slots into vocals. One of the most melliferous tracks you will hear this year, Bridwell has a tranquil, rich, soothing patter reminiscent to that of a young Neil Young. Parading his song writing ability which were non-existent until the formation of the band in 2004, Bridwell has shown his ability to write truly moving, heart wrenching songs with ‘The Funeral’ being a perfect advertisement for the soon to be released debut album.
