‘Born In The USA’ Voted Greatest Rock Album

Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Born In The USA’ has been voted the greatest rock album of all time in a new poll.

The 1984 album beat off competition from bands including Nirvana and The Clash to top the survey, which was carried out in conjunction with a new BBC rock documentary.

‘Born In The USA,’ which has sold over fifteen million albums worldwide, was described as having “unabashed sentimentality” by music writer, David Hepworth. He added: “Splashy sound, enormous drums, brilliant packaging - rock albums don't come any poppier."

Dire Straits 1985 album ‘Brothers In Arms,’ came in at number two in the poll, just ahead of Nirvana’s seminal 1991 album, ‘Nevermind,’ which was described as a “snapshot of those times.”

Other notable bands to make the top ten included The Clash with ‘London Calling,’ and the ‘White Album’ by The Beatles.

The full top ten can be seen bellow:

1- Bruce Springsteen – ‘Born In The USA’
2- Dire Straits- ‘Brothers In Arms’
    3- Nirvana – ‘Nevermind’
    4- The Clash – ‘London’s Calling’
5- David Bowies– ‘The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars’
6- The Beatles - ‘White Album’
    7- Black Sabbath - ‘Paranoid’
    8- U2 - ‘Achtung Baby’
9- The Stone Roses – ‘The Stone Roses’
10- Led Zeppelin – ‘Led Zeppelin IV’

    • That shitkicking rock’n’roll landmark, Brothers in Arms by Dire Straits, lands at number 2!?!? Er, in that case shouldn’t the top 10 contain at least one Phil Collins solo emission and possibly something by the Eagles too? Who exactly voted in this poll?

    • It really should have been Born to Run rather than Born in the USA ... but as long as Bruce is top of the list then it is a good list ... some surprising entries in there however - no Rolling Stones ... and I agree what are Dire Straits doing at number 2 - great album but hmmm and it would be interesting to know who voted and how many people. However all that being said Bruce is ontop and that is the way it should be
