Hot Chip and Cat Power are amongst the 10 artists nominated for the prestigious Shortlist Prize in America.
The awards are based on the Mercury Music Prize and recognise artists who have sold fewer than 500,000 albums Stateside in 2006.
A panel of important figures from the industry had their say on who is nominated, including Franz Ferdinand, KT Tunstall, Panic! At The Disco, Wayne Coyne and Sufjan Stevens.
Also up with their albums are Spank Rock, Regina Spektor, Bonnie Prince Billy and Beirut. The winner of the gong receives a $10,000 prize fund.
Past winners of the Shortlist Prize include Sigur Ros, TV on the Radio and Damien Rice.
