Hot right now:

Channel Four Gives Popworld The Chop

    After nearly seven years...

April 30, 2007 by Scott Colothan

First it was Popworld Pulp magazine, now the Popworld TV show has been given the axe.

After six and a half years on the air, the show that launched the careers of Simon Amstell and Miquita Oliver is no more from July.

Many people feel that the show lost its edge as soon as the condescending pair of Alex Zane and Alexa
Chung were drafted in last year.

A spokesperson for the show said: "Channel 4 has decided not to recommission Popworld.

"The show has performed very successfully over this period but we are keen to continue to use our T4 platform as a launch pad for new music formats that reflect our audience's tastes and the way in which they consume music."

Channel 4 are apparently lining up some offshoot shows to fill in the voids.

    • It went shit about 18 months/2 years before Simon and Miquita left when it became tired and self-parodic - absolutey irredeemable with the new pair. I love Miquita though and would be pleased if her and Jeff Stelling were drafted in to do a similarly irreverent pop and current affairs magazine show once a week in a prime time slot. Make it happen, gigwise?
