Super Furry Animal Gruff Rhys is writing a new concept album based on the life of car manufacturer John De Lorean.
The singer has formed new side project Neon Neon with Bryan ‘Boom Bip’ Hollon, and the pair’s debut release this summer will explore De Lorean’s life.
He explains to The Scotsman, “It doesn't actually have a name yet, but the theme of the album is the De Lorean car manufacturer.
"It's sort of an album about the American nightmare, based on the life and times of John De Lorean. It's about his life. He grew up from humble beginnings to build a car plant in Belfast.
"We're still working on it, but it will hopefully be out in the next few months."
Rhys has also confirmed the Super Furries have just finished recording their eighth studio album, which has been pencilled in for a August release.
