Travis – ‘Closer’ (Independiente) Released 23/04/07

Three years on from Travis' last long-player ’12 memories’, the band that many believe “invented” Coldplay (cheers) introduce us to their fifth album ‘The Boy With No Name’ with this polished and melodic single. Well produced with a gentle but heartfelt chorus and the addition of soft string harmonies adding to its richness, there is no doubt it will feature in every rom-com movie you see this summer. But as is always the case with Travis, it just lacks the vital substance. Mediocre stuff, then.
