The Beep Seals – ‘Tell Your Friends’ (Kings and Creatures) Released 16/04/07

There’s a definite retro-edge operating on this one with clear influences raging from The Beatles to more modern acts such as Polytechnic (members of which own The Beep Seals' label).  Instrumentally, the track sounds almost folk-ish at times with some up-strummed guitars and plodding bass line which detracts from any sense of urgency. As the chorus drops you’ll be forgiven for thinking you’re listening to ‘God Only Knows What I’d Do Without You’ by The Beach Boys, which is not necessarily a good thing. We all love a trip down memory lane; however due to a dated sound which fails to achieve what it is so clearly attempting to do, it’s a lane full of ditches, muddy puddles and pissed-off farmers with shotguns.
