Geezers of Nazareth - ‘Songs on The Radio’ (Bored) Released 04/10/04

Well, first up, the name. You’re either going to love it or hate it. I personally love it, mainly because I thought it would represent the exterior of a comedy band who are taking the piss out of themselves. I could not have been more wrong.

Once again the mediocre reigns supreme and in this album, aptly titled ‘Songs on Radio’ we are presented with a choice of songs that all merge into one another and become the same.
The creators of this monstrosity are completely disillusioned. Adrian Meehan and Barnaby Reynolds truly believe that they have created a concept album rather then something so run of the mill

These Dodgy soundalikes (and that is being way to nice!) have collected some 11 songs together and with the help of a couple of guitars, synthesiser and drum kit have cobbled together this album. The actual songs individually would be perfect for early evening Radio 2, together however, it is a different story and passable tracks like ‘Rush Our Blues’, ‘Songs On The Radio’ and single ‘Gold Rush’ collapse under their simultaneous pressure and implode. Its like hanging round with a mate that looks just like you, neither of you end up standing out and you're ****ed, or maybe not?

Interspersed with the beats is the odd reggae vibe, most obviously on ‘Geegees’ and this track stands out from the others as it does have a real life, comedy slant as well as a totally different sound from anything else on the album. Lines like "I’ve got my mind on the money and my money on a horse" managed to actually cause the smallest of chuckles from my tightly pursed lips but this unfortunately is not enough to win me over to be a follower of the geezers.
