Various – ‘Capital Gold Legendary Labels’ (Universal) Released 09/04/07

As well as being a forthcoming album which we will come to in a moment, ‘Legendary Labels’ is also a documentary series that features on half a dozen digital radio channel as well as being a regular feature on Capital Gold radio, fact fans.

Find out everything you didn’t care about all your favourite songs and bands! Gasp as good music is hopelessly dissected for informational entertainment! Swoon at the behind the scenes stories! Really, does anybody listen to this? Okay, rant over; let us concentrate on the music.

‘Capital Gold Legendary Labels’ gives you 2 CDs containing 45 songs in total (do you note the significance of the number 45? No? Look it up in relation to vinyl. Got it? Ahhh.) All the tunes are instantly recognizable, reasonably likable and fundamentally eclectic. Where else would you find The Kinks (yay!), Daniel Bedingfield (boo!) and The Supremes (eh?) in such close proximity? Only via the magic of radio my friends.

As such, no particular track can be recommended, because they are all pretty good, or within dancing distance of good (if not ‘legendary’ of course). None of them have any rarity value whatsoever; indeed they were all picked because they were popular, as simple as that.

Apparently the team who put it together had great difficulty in picking the 45 that would make the cut. It actually appears they used a tombola containing little scrunched up balls of paper with names on, then got a monkey to sift through the remains and whichever ones it did not try to eat went on the CD. Or something like that.

They are all good songs that you should have in your collection, but as an album? We're not sure. Buy it; don’t buy it, it’s your choice.
