Painfully prolonging the commercial shelf-life of ‘A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out’ to the extent that one is tempted to believe that the sole purpose of this digital-only release is to remind the fickle public, following Fall Out Boy’s wonderful re-laying of the gauntlet, that Panic! At The Disco still exist, ‘Build God, Then We’ll Talk’ is the millionth single from the Las Vegas quartet’s debut album. Which kind of makes Panic! the ‘Thriller’-era Michael Jacksons of planet MySpace. More restrained than usual, ‘Build God…’ aims for a baroque, climatic quality and largely succeeds (nice violins), though Ryan Ross still sounds like he’s trying to fit the Thesaurus’ longest words inonesentencelikethis, and the appropriation of The Sound Of Music’s ‘My Favourite Things’, last made famous by legendary UK hip-hop crew Big Brovaz is a little misguided.
If this really is an arms race then Panic! At The Disco need to replenish their arsenal ASAP.
