The Electric Cinema have a sound that makes it extremely difficult to decide whether their latest single ‘Cut Down’ is an overblown blatant Flaming Lips rip off or an extremely beautiful song by a band with such a sonic brilliance. The Watford 4-piece have created music that tries its hardest to break away from what it is to be an indie band, and have thus moulded a song that will surely garner recognition from those looking for depth and brilliant musicianship in a convenient package. However great they may sound, the band have been frivolously labelled as somewhat of a Wayne Coyne b-side band. There's obviously some substance in saying that as the big keyboards and falsetto background choir-esque vocals are all there ticking the boxes, but The Electric Cinema deserve better than comparisons. Beautifully sad songs with a murky undertone give this band an edge to the would be pigeonholers.

    • i broadly agree. i think that it’s an easy game pigeon-holing, yet with the content of this band’s songs being so strong i think they deserve to be considered in they’re own right. a band with one or two ok songs could/should attract comment and comparison but i think when the songs are as great and as consistant as this bands then you are forced to address them seperately, away from obvious comparison. a refreshingly great band.
