Warped Religion With Johnny Cash In Singled Out!

Dogs Die In Hot Cars return to the world of singles with the follow up to their well received album. ‘Lounger’ is a catchy, bright and quirky track. The lyrics are humorous as ever ‘I get up when I like..don’t have to eat my greens’. This track is full of laid back melodies and crackin’ guitars definitely one to lounge about to. Hang on in there for b-side ‘Mandarins’, well worth it.

Home Video have released the follow up to their debut release. The five track EP ‘Citizen’ has been released through Warp Records and is a sublime mix of electro and chill out. A totally laid back collection of guitar feedback and beats. This EP has a very Radio 4 sound to it. The mix of bass, beats and synthesisers all collide to give this EP a fascinating electronic pop sound. Currently on tour these boys are well worth a look.

Ok, so he’s totally crazy, but Marilyn Manson does do covers well. ‘Personal Jesus’ is no exception; he covers this Depeche Mode classic with all the gusto of a real Mode fan. This is a stomping classic, not really different enough from the original to totally stand out, but the thought of Manson being anyone’s Personal Jesus is enough to put the willies up even the hardest of men, love it.

Soundhog aka Ben Hayes is not only from North Wales but he also been one of the most downloaded artists over the last 18 months. 'Curdler' is a super funky dance tune, already being played by 2 Many DJs and the like. The sexy beats are interspersed with dirty guitars and feedback, definitely one for the dance floors and one to shake your booty to, go and get it.

The Barbs new single ‘Massive Crush’ reiterates the dirty punk ethos that this band are working towards. Lyrically these guys are spectacular, blending different ways of getting their message across, chanting and shouting rather then singing but all the different styles come together to create something totally different and pretty special, something fun which seems to be the name of the game these days. ‘Massive Crush’ will be the single to thrust these guys into the public eye, short, sharp and really sweet.

‘Johnny Cash’ was a great man, Sons and Daughters’ tribute to him is also great. A rip roaring track that is full of voices, guitars, tambourines, well pretty much everything, a total chaotic mish mash of sounds that ends in a massive crescendo of noise, what this band do best really. Although it is hard to figure out exactly what they are saying that does not matter one little bit, once again stay tuned for Adele Bethals lead vocals on b-side ‘Hunt’, fan-fuckin-tastic.

Forever political Sum 41 have added their name to the list of celebrities who are getting involved with the political landscape in the US and Canada. ‘We’re All To Blame’ is their message to their fans, and I guess we are all to blame. The lyrics that are conveyed in a typical ‘rock’ Sum 41 way, interchanging between wonderful melodies to heavy screeching rock outs. The track features lyrics like ‘We’re living in a culture of fear’, ‘We’re dying in vain’ etc etc makes you realise that this is no off the cuff remark, these boys really mean it, good on them.

Your Code Name Is: Milo are getting ready for the release of their album in early 2005. ‘Schteeve’ is a taster of what we can expect from that. It is a track full of heavy riffs and pretty rubbish lyrics. This track does not do the band justice at all, it is a weak and shallow representation of their talents and if this is what we can expect from the album I for one am not going to bother.

The Duke Spirit’s latest single is ‘Cuts Across The Land’ and is pretty fucking cool. Vocals from Liela Moss provide the backbone for this track along with the tub-thumping drums. The riffs are constant throughout and there is more then a touch of darkness to this irrepressible catchy tune. It is however a little too long for the content, they is not enough variation within the tune to warrant it. Despite this overall it is a good single from a band who are on their way to the big time, i.e. CD:UK.

‘New Health Rock’ by TV On The Radio is once again a blend of guitars, feedback and synthesisers. The New Yorkers should give lessons on how to amalgamate the electronic side of music with Rock and Roll as they do it to perfection every time. This track really does exactly what it says on the tin. This band is genre-less, refusing to be put in a box. If you don’t know of the wonder of TV On The Radio by now then you are probably unworthy. Nevertheless go and buy it, if you can’t afford it beg, steal or borrow, whatever it takes.
