Prime Minister Tony Blair has heaped praise on the booming British music industry.

The Labour leader was speaking at a visit to the Tate Modern Art Gallery in London, when he said that he believes music is an integral part of a ‘golden age’ in the arts.

He said: “A nation that cares about art will not just be a better nation. In the early 21st Century it will be a more successful one.”

Mr Blair went on to say that the reason behind the success of the arts was the music business which rakes in a massive £6billion to the country’s economy.

He said that he took ‘great pride’ in Britain’s cultural industries and that London was undoubtedly the creative capital of the world.

    • Which is worse? The blood of innocent Iraq families killed by Blair in an illegal war? Or that toss-juggler frontman out of the Kooks, with his perm and that. I dunno... Some days I just can’t decide what most dents my national pride...

    • It is a golden age, though. Compared to what ’Pop’ music had been like since the 80s, I’d much rather have The Kooks or Snow Patrol as big sellers over Liberty X or the Spice Girls.

    • That bloke above, Verveboy, doesn’t quite understand ”golden age” does he? Oh, they’re better than The Spice Girls- Golden age, golden age! As dim as... well, the usual Richard Ashcroft fan, then.
