Snow Patrol Singer's Depressed 30 Pint Binges

Snow Patrol frontman Gary Lightbody says he’s now quit booze after admitting to going on 30-pint benders due to depression.

The singer, now 30, says that in the early days of his band he was so unhappy with himself he would drown his troubles in alcohol in spectacular fashion.

He tells Q magazine, “I started drinking at 25. I was being an arsehole. I was swearing at people, smashing equipment and acting like a dickhead. I loathed myself. At my worst I'd do maybe 30 pints of Guinness on a three-day bender. I've always got my finger on the self-destruct button,"

Rock’n’roll! And there we were thinking Snow Patrol were deathly boring! Not that Gary drinks anymore.

He explains, “Drink's lost its appeal, to be honest. I don't drink on tour. I get very depressed and I lose my voice, which makes me even more depressed.”
