Bobby Brown has been sent to jail for 30 days after failing to pay $19,000 in child support.
The controversial singer was arrested while visiting his daughter in Massachusetts last weekend.
Brown failed to turn up in court last October for a hearing over his failure to pay child support to Kim Ward, so a warrant was made for his arrest. Brown has two children to Ward.
His lawyer Phaedra Parks defended the star, saying: "Although this agreement was put in place when he was Bobby Brown the star, this agreement is being enforced when he is not always able to find work.
"He hasn't made an album in quite some years."
Bobby Brown is currently also in the process of divorcing the much-troubled Whitney Houston.
