Dexys Midnight Runners Post Up New Song

First new track in 22 years....

February 03, 2007 by Chris Taylor

The perennially influential Dexys Midnight Runners have written their first new song for 22 years.

The new song, a kind of statement of intent for projected  comeback album ‘It’s Ok Joanna’, has been posted on frontman Kevin Rowland’s Dexys' Myspace page.

A statement on the page from the band, who count Gigwise uber-favourites Hot Club De Paris amongst their biggest fans, includes, “In 2003, Dexy's were at last reinvented for a critically acclaimed and rapturously received tour.

"Again, it wasn't a greatest hits tour, and many of the ideas approached that were received with bewilderment in 1985 were employed again.

“But this time, those ideas were understood and very warmly welcomed. The world had caught up with us. 2007 could be a good year for fans of Kevin and Dexys."

Check out the song - it sounds a bit like a soul Television Personlaities.

    • I thought there were new tracks on their ’best of’ a couple of years ago?

    • Technically, they were newly recorded songs that had been around for a while, but not 22 years so it’s still rubbish fact checking. Do you need to try and make it relevant by name dropping a recent band? Essentially you’re saying ”Hey look kids! Here’s an old band, but don’t worry, it’s not just for your GRANDADS!!!!”. Or perhaps your terrified of being less patronising than the NME, in which case good work!
