    Tom Waits Settles 'Sound-Alike' Lawsuit

He'll donate the money to charity...

January 26, 2007 by Scott Colothan

Tom Waits has settled his legal fight against German Car giant Adam Opel AG and the advertising agency McCann Erickson.

As previously reported, the seminal singer brought the case to court alleging that the companies used a sound-alike to sing a song on a car advert.

In the original lawsuit, Waits was seeking $300,000 in damages and an injunction to stop the companies from using it in their commercials.

Now, after the case was settled out of court, Waits said in a statement: “I’m glad to be out of the car sales business once and for all.

McCann Erickson said in their statement: “We respect Mr Waits and deeply regret any embarrassment that this may have caused.”

Waits has said that he will be donating the undisclosed settlement to charity.
