If you saw the name and thought Lonelady was just the name of some hip new indie quartet you’d be wrong. In fact, ‘Lone’ is the operative word rather than a cunning linguistic trick. Hailing from a Manchester tower block, which also doubles as her studio, ‘Army,’ is Lonelady’s third release and her first to feature a human drummer. If the drums do anything however, then they just help ‘LL’ stay in time while she trashes her guitar which goes from the gritty funk of Paul Weller to the catchy melodies of The Cure. It’s a musical juxtaposition that helps infuse her autobiographical quest to conquer the world. She spurts “I’ve got an army of one, I need to get things done, I need to get things done,” with such venom even George W would think twice about going into battle against this solider. Gigwise doesn’t even want to try but will quite happily listen to more of her ammunition.
