An unsigned band look set to make chart history this weekend by entering the top 40.
Essex outfit Koopa are benefiting from the shake up in the chart rules put in to place last week meaning that downloads are eligible for entry even if they aren’t released as a physical format.
Midweek sales figures put the track ‘Beg, Steal & Borrow’ at number 17 in the chart, virtually ensuring it will remain in the chart at the weekend.
Band singer and bassist Joe Murphy said: "With the new rules, it does give hope for genuine talent. You don't need to be dictated to by the big boys, by the record labels.
"You can release a song and if you've got the fanbase and people buy it, you'll get into the charts - it's great."
The band’s manager Gary Raymond told the BBC: "It's fantastic that a band like us can have an opportunity to put ourselves into the top 30 with Razorlight and U2."
