REM and Patti Smith are amongst the acts chosen to go into the US Music Hall Of Fame.
Also being honoured in the March ceremony are Van Halen, Grandmaster Flash and sixties girl group The Ronettes.
The inductees for the yearly event have been nominated by a panel of 600 industry experts and insiders.
Acts are only eligible for the Hall of Fame 25 years after the release of their first material. REM narrowly made this year’s poll having released their debut single in 1982.
