In the time it takes to read this, Michigan oddballs Whirlwind Heat will have dreamt up another way to sully last year’s rather fine ‘Types of Wood’ album. Although not on the record’s sister release ‘I Fucked Up Types of Wood’ – which prefixes every song title with “I Fucked Up” - ‘How Do You Do?’ is a similar slice of off-kilter, lovelorn Pavement-y weirditude. Aided by long-time Whirlwind Heat admirer and ex Test Icicle Devonte Hynes, the results sound like they were recorded in your uncle Trevor’s garage in a minus 30 degree blizzard. Featuring a chorus of irresistible Dave Grohl-style cooing and some excellently skuzzy guitars, the track will satisfy faithful fans despite not matching former glories. ‘I Fucked Up How Do You Do?’ is perhaps going too far then, but Whirlwind Heat must have the strangest dreams.
