Someone once asked in a review of Belle and Sebastian “How can a band with so many members make such little noise?” The same question springs to mind when listening to this debut single by Brighton band My Little Problem. For an eight piece featuring trumpet, lapsteel, banjo, cello, harmonica, violin, and keyboards, it’s a distinctly low key affair reminiscent of Elliot Smith, singer Simon Janes’ voice sounding especially so. The track has a haunting theatricality with the trumpets and strings adding a slightly sinister overtone to the whole melancholy affair. An interesting debut.
