American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson has picked a bizarre collaborator for her new album – an American punk legend from The Minutemen and Iggy And The Stooges.
Clarkson has drafted in Mike Watt, the founding bassist from the Minutemen who is now playing with the reunited Stooges, to play “fuzz bass, fills and solos (and) just making things fatter” on her upcoming album.
Watt admits he had little idea who Clarkson was before recording began, and found the whole experience “trippy”.
He says, “I ended up playing on six of the songs. I had no idea what it was going to be like, but it ended up being pretty interesting.
"I heard that Kelly won some game show, but I was really impressed how she sang her ass off.
“It was intense. I'm really glad I had the experience - it was trippy and everyone gave me much respect."
