Lily Allen has revealed that she paid £500 to the dognappers who took her beloved pet Maggie May over Christmas.
An undisclosed person got in touch with Lily on January 3 to tell the pop star that he had bought the dog for his sister for Christmas.
However, they said that they would need £500 for its safe return. Two of Lily’s pals went to collect the mutt where they were offered more dogs.
In a post on her blog, Lily says she believes that Maggie May was stolen as part of a dognapping ring.
She wrote: "I feel guilty for having given them the money and contributing to their cruel business but I love my dog and I felt I had no choice.
"The fact that she was very thin makes me think she was mistreated - not fed - and the fact she was infested with fleas implies she was kept with other animals... This is now a matter for the RSPCA and the police."
As previously reported Lily’s dog was stolen on December 28 from the back of a friend’s van.
