The person who apparently forked out a whopping $155,000 on eBay for a unique Velvet Underground acetate has turned out to be a fake.
As previously reported, the vinyl is a unique pressing of the band’s seminal album ‘The Velvet Underground & Nico’, dating from 1966.
But now the owner of the vinyl, Warren Hill, has revealed that the final bidder, known as merchadaddy, is bogus.
Hill told CBC: “It seems to have gone badly at the end. I just don’t feel like talking about it.”
However, despite the bad news, Hill confirmed that he will still be interested in selling the piece in the future.
Hill had bought the album some years ago for a mere 75 cents.
