Indie-popsters The Pipettes have voiced their support for Lily Allen’s recent attack on the NME.
With Amy Winehouse having already spoken up for Lily after she accused the music weekly of being condescending to female artists, The Pipettes have joined the anti-NME brigade, calling for an end to misogynism in music.
Singer Becki says in a MySpace posting, “Well done Lily for speaking out against crap male togetherness. It's about time women in music stop being pigeon holed for what they do and are accepted for the exciting music they make.
“It's difficult being an outspoken woman in today's society as unfortunately one of the hardest things to gain is respect (noticeably from men who feel threatened), people turn what you say into moaning or ranting and people stop listening to you altogether and start disregarding it with a wave of their condescending hand.
“If this doesn't happen then people turn what you've said around and use it out of context. This happens very often and it gets very tiring.”

who reads NME and takes it seriously anyways? Its musics equivalent of GMTV!
I thought Smash Hits had renamed itself as the NME?
Yeah, NME, is only for people who can’t form their own opinions and need to have someone else tell them what to like and what not to like.
Becki is quite right I`m suprised the NME havent use the words ”Hormonal” yet . Its stuck in the dark ages and is completly up its own bottom
- yes, this is why they’ve been banging on about the gossip for fucking years.
the nme isnt anti women, maybe just anti-crap.
maybe its all down to the fact that there just arent many new releases from females worth noting. this will of course change with the impending latest bjork opus and possible harvey album.
