Alan McGee: 'Robbie Williams Is Destroying Pop Culture'

Robbie Williams has been labelled a ‘showbiz chancer’ who is ruining the British music industry - by the very man who discovered Oasis.

Creation records founder McGee says he can’t grasp why the former Take That man is so popular compared to the likes of Elton John and George Michael.

He told 6 Music: "These people are brilliant, world class musical talents. Robbie's just a showbiz chancer.”

“It's people like him who are destroying British pop culture. He has one per cent of Mick Jagger’s talent. He's the post 9/11 feel good factor. He doesn't mean anything. He's utterly vacant."

    • Oasis didn’t have 1% of anyone’s talent - both of these artists are artistic noentities so who cares? Oasis didn’t mean anything. They were nowhere as good as the people they looked up to. Pop culture is always going to be pretty mixed, just like all other music.

    • Oasis didn’t mean anything!!?? WTF! Noel Gallagher was the reason people started buying guitars again, me and my mates included. Noel Gallagher wrote songs that people could go to festivals and sing along to with complete strangers. stick gandhi = tosser.

    • Oasis told tales of working class hardship in the hard times of the early 90s Manchester - in the same way the arctic monkeys or streets do about the slightly more affluent modern day working class - yet we are constantly told how fresh and original these bands are to talk about this subject so yes Oasis did stand for something (initially at least)

    • Oasis are just middle class wannabees trying to inherit the great Beatle mantle. It’s like Jade Goody thinking she’s Elizabeth Taylor, with all of the girth but none of the talent.
