Bad-ass rapper Akira The Don has unveiled a special treat on his current tour of Britain – a cover of Chris De Burgh song.
To mark his respect for 'Da' Burgh, Akira has reworked the mono-browed crooner’s ‘Borderline’, a moving tale of a German soldier waiting for the Iron Curtain to fall so he can meet up with his mates again.
Featuring our new favourite co-singer Mary Turner on violin, Akira treated Wrexham’s Central Station to the cover on Thursday, telling us before his set in Liverpool last night (which unfortunately didn't feature said song, but kicked it nonetheless) that he was well into De Burgh's “almost ridiculously naïve and childishly honest” delivery.
Putting the diminutive singer's current omnipresence (we even saw him face off Ronan Keating on Ready, Steady, Cook) down to a magical coming together of our "collective conciousness", Akira earnestly added, “Even if he’s doing some awful song about the crusades he tries to put it from his viewpoint. It’s not good music, but he goes right to the heart of the thing.”
However, we'd still recommend checking out Akira's ace debut album 'When We Were Young' before getting that De Burgh tip.
