Pop Levi has revealed he turned down American TV’s CSI’s request to use one of his songs on the hit show.
Despite Snow Patrol’s ‘Chasing Cars’ becoming the first UK single in 13 years to get into the Billboard top five last month after being featured on CSI rival ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, the rising star refused permission to use ‘(A Style Called) Crying Chic’ from his forthcoming debut album.
In an exclusive interview with Gigwise he explained, “They wanted to change the lyrics. They wanted it to be about a hooker called Kirstie or something. I had to say no on that one. I uhmed and ahhed about it for about three minutes, then went **** off, no way.”
However, Levi admits he’s not against the principal, and if the money on offer had been better he would have reworked the song for them.
He explains, “They asked too much for too little. If they'd given me a million dollars to do it, then it would have been silly to say no. I would have taken a million dollars to put Kirstie in a song, and make a shit load of great records for a million dollars.“
Indeed, Pop’s quite spectacular forthcoming single ‘Sugar Assault Me Now’ was within an eye-lash’s breath of sound-tracking the new Rimmel adverts - which, as a lover of eye make-up himself, he would have been delighted with.
He explains, “The new adverts with Kate Moss in, that was supposed to be Sugar Assault Me. Then the day before the deadline they changed it to something else.
“I was perfectly willing to let them use the song. I made it on the ****ing breadline in a warehouse. Even better isn't it? Some babe going 'Whoooo' over it. Would I take £50,000 for 30 seconds on a Rimmel advert? Yeah, I would. Would I let it to be used on a McDonald's advert? Never.”
