Early Green Day Albums To Be Re-Released

‘1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours’ and ‘Kerplunk!’, Green Day’s first two independently-released albums, are to be re-released on a major label for the first time.

The three-piece melodic punk pioneers, currently set for a high chart entry with their U2 collaboration ‘The Saints Are Coming’, originally released the albums in 1991 and 1992 on the Lookout! label. Reprise, Green Day’s current major label, will issue the new editions on December 19th.

Although ‘Kerplunk!’ will not include any new material, ‘1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours’ is set to feature a host of extra content, including 20 minutes of live recordings from the era of the album’s release, alongside handwritten lyrics from frontman Billie Joe Armstrong, show flyers, and a 1991 radio interview.

While it was 1994’s ‘Dookie’ that caterpulted Green Day to international fame, and 2004’s ‘American Idiot’ which returned them to the top, their trademark sound is still heavily evident on these first two albums. There is no word yet on whether these new editions will make an appearance in the U.K.
