Gigwise favourites The Shins have said their new album features a new “spooky, ghostly” sound.
‘Wincing The Night Away’ was scheduled for release this year, but was put back to 2007 after the band struggled to get their new direction absolutely right.
However, singer James Mercer tells Reuters that the record - the band’s third long-player - is now finished and sounding the way they wanted it.
He says, “We wanted a spooky, ghostly sound on this record. It's kind of a romantic view of night-time and it shows up on some of the tracks. But there's also a sense of jubilation.”
The album is finally released in January.
