My Chemical Romance: 'We Inspired Panic! At The Disco'

My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way believes that his band’s theatrics have paved the way for other acts like Panic! At The Disco.

The emo favourites are notorious for their extravagant stage shows and overblown videos.

Asked whether he respects Panic! for following their lead, Way told Gigwise: “I think I back what a band like that does. I think it’s good. I mean we didn’t start being a theatrical band so we could be the only one.

“We started it so we could inspire other acts to do that too.”

Way also told us that he’s looking forward to the ultimate date on My Chemical Romance’s spring tour at London’s Wembley Arena.

He added: “Yeah, Wembley’s like a dream. Wembley’s like playing MSG (Madison Square Garden) in New York.

“It’s that thing you always hear about and the fact that we’re getting to play Wembley Arena is phenomenal. That’s the only way to describe it.”

    • They’re telling the truth. Without My Chemical Romance there wouldn’t be any Panic! at the disco. They both rock so hard though.

    • Um? Panic and MCR are completely different on absolutely every level. No matter which way you look at it. Live shows with big bands are supposed to blow your minds, mcr didn't invent theatrics. It's a given. So you'll understand my complete confusion when you say Panic wouldn't exist without mcr. Maybe if you said the Beatles, or the Beach Boys, or even Sgt. Peppers....But mcr? You're joking right?

    • Panic probably wouldn't exist w/o MCR bc Ryan Ross was a HUGE fan of them when he was younger. He never talks about it, but it has nothing to do with their current musical influences and everything to do with that, I think. Google "old pictures of ryan ross" and you'll come up with TONS of primers w/ pictures Ryan took & uploaded himself to lj , a lot of which feature him in old MCR merch, or his post on the lj comm in 2004 where he says MCR "make [him] dance"
