Once the side project for bass player of Queens Of The Stone Age, Nick Oliveri, Mondo Generator is now Oliveri’s full time band due to his dismissal from QOTSA by Josh Homme.

Mondo Generators first album ‘cocaine Rodeo’ was released in 1997, with Oliveri getting his friends Josh Homme, Brant Bjork and Rob Oswald in on the project. Although this album would not be released until 2000 due to Oliveri’s involvement in QOTSA, Mondo Generator was a driving force in helping Oliveri perform his own songs. With a few live shows here and there, MG gained cult status rather than mainstream success.

2003 saw the release of the acclaimed ‘A Drug Problem That Never Existed’ and a three month tour with Oliveri and a handful of his cohorts helping out on stage. The tour took the band across Europe and North America. The album was released through Mike Patton’s label Ipecac Recordings.

Enter 2004. Oliveri was fired from Queens Of The Stone Age due to problems between himself and frontman Josh Homme, with Homme claiming that he had heard rumours of Oliveri physically assaulting Homme’s then girlfriend. Other claims came in the form of Homme stating that Oliveri’s drug use had become a problem to the band and their fans. He was unwittingly encouraged into signing his rights of QOTSA away, as Homme disguised a waiver as a Limited Liability Contract.

Thus Mondo Generator becoming Nick Oliveri’s last chance at keeping his name out in the music scene.

2005 saw Mondo Generator tour Europe and the recording of Oliveri’s acoustic album ‘Demolition Day’ which later appeared on the 2006 Vinyl LP version of ‘Dead Planet: SonicSlowMotionTrails’.

Oliveri has since appeared on stage with Turbonegro, Motorhead and Dwarves as guest members.
