Babyshambles have pulled out of the rest of the FROG club tour to give singer Pete Doherty more time to “progress” his drug rehabilitation.
The band pulled out of the tour’s date in Liverpool on Friday as Doherty was suffering from “exhaustion”, and their record company confirmed they will not be playing the remaining four tour dates.
Whilst EMI said Doherty was making “excellent” progress following his latest stint in rehabilitation for crack and heroin addiction – which was concluded to let him go on tour – but said the postponements were necessary to continue this.
A statement read, "The band apologizes to fans but hopes that they will understand the importance of Peter being able to best continue his good progress in recovering from addiction. The dates will be rearranged for as soon as possible and all tickets will remain valid."
The gigs affected are in Glasgow, Nottingham, Manchester and Newcastle.
The statement from the record company is interesting, as it shows a significant level of commitment from EMI.
It had been reported that following their parting from Rough Trade earlier this year, Babyshambles had signed a one single only deal with Regal, an off-shoot of Parlophone, who are owned by EMI.
