‘Meds’ perfectly showcases Placebo’s ability to still make an affecting song, without the stomping beat and venomous lyrics of previous hits a la ‘Nancy Boy.’ Instead, ‘Meds’ brings an unsettling, claustrophobic vibe to the listener, with guest vocals from VV of the Kills providing an atmospheric refrain for Molko’s detached, paranoid verses. Gradually rising to a klaxon-enhanced climactic chorus, Molko finishes the song with the words “I was alone, falling free, trying my best not to forget.” A reminder to us all to never exceed the stated dose (unless that means you come up with cracking tunes like this that is…)
