MCR’s new single provides fans with a welcome to the forthcoming album, The Black Parade (no surprises there then), which Gerard Way claims is “an examination of mortality”. Appropriately, it has a hauntingly effective start – a solitary, startlingly simple piano line floats over Way’s vocals and marching band drums draw the listener in to an intense build-up of guitars. Then, with a single drum-roll, the dream is broken, and ‘Welcome To The Black Parade’ sounds much like every other My Chemical Romance single. However, this means it is just as annoyingly catchy and bound to be just as ridiculously popular as everything else they’ve released.
