Beck's New Album Disqualified From UK Chart

Beck’s new album ‘The Information’ has been disqualified from the UK charts because of the deluxe packaging it comes in.

His new record for Interscope comes complete with a sticker sheet handpicked by Beck himself, which fans can use to design their own album cover.

But the Official Chart Company (OCC) have ruled that such extras give the album an unfair advantage over competitors in the chart.

Beck told Billboard: "It's an unconventional package, but it shouldn't be penalized for that.

"Any art on a CD is an incentive to buy and listen. Ultimately, it doesn't matter. The response from the fans has been so strong, and that is the most important thing."

It’s unlikely that the album will be deinied chart eligibility Stateside.

    • Possibly the most stupid thing I’ve ever heard. Why on earth would it give it an unfair advantage? So they’re saying that people would buy an album with terrible music on, because there’s a nice set of stickers on the inside? If I wanted stickers, I’d collect a football annual. Not buy a CD for ten pound. They complain about the flagging sales of albums and then do something like this. Completely ludicrous.

    • Who cares? It’s a boring and tedious album, a few ”hand picked” stickers won’t change that. How long has it been now since Beck has made any interesting music - about 10 years? Mind you, he uses that puppet in his live show, which is so crazy subversive that it almost makes me want to smoke crack.

    • I personally don’t feel that it’s a boring and tedious album, thus I care. Plus, I’m bloody well sure he does.

    • I would only buy Beck’s album for the stickers, unless it’s a remix album, or one foot in the grave.

    • hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!! it never fails to crack me up, the way people openly flaunt their stupidity on messageboards. beck - one of the only truly challenging and psychedelic artists in the world of his stature. + why should anyone be penalised for breaking the mould, using clever artwork, doing something DIFFERENT??? and we think america is conservative!!!
