Kathryn Williams – ‘Hollow’ (Caw) Released 18/09/06

Mercury Prize nominated Liver Bird shares thought provoking lyrics with her usual gentle candour. Moody piano joined by feathered strings and a vocal vulnerability that could send the lovelorn into swirling seas of doubt and longing. (Or the less dramatic of you may find yourself trying to remember an ex’s phone number.) “Can I live with the space leaving you behind me?” Kathryn Williams is often compared to Canadian songstress Joni Mitchell. She has an understated charm that makes it easy to listen to and empathise with.  ‘Hollow’ perhaps lacks the initial impact of her reworking of Nirvana’s ‘All Apologies’ but  the folk singer’s daughter has done her father proud yet again.
