David Bowie has pulled out of next week’s T In The Park, as well as his European tour dates scheduled for July.
A trapped nerve in the legends shoulder has been blamed for cancellations over the past few days, and a message on his official website says that the problem has worsened.
The statement reads: "Due to the continuing pain and extreme discomfort from a trapped/pinched nerve in his shoulder and to prevent possible further injury, David Bowie has been advised by his doctors to cancel his performances at the eleven remaining European festival dates throughout July.
"Due to the unpredictable nature of the condition and in an effort to give fans as much warning as possible, (and indeed, to aid promoters in finding a replacement headliner in time for the festival dates) David Bowie very reluctantly agreed to take the advice.
"David, and everybody involved with the tour, is very sorry for the hardship that this difficult decision may have caused. We realise that many of you will have lost money on non-refundable travel and festival tickets.
David has expressed his sincere disappointment at having to cancel: "Thank you all for your kind words on the message boards and for your continued understanding that had there been an alternative to this course of action, it would have been taken."
T In The Park features The Strokes, Kings Of Leon, David Bowie, The Chemical Brothers, Wu-Tang Clan, Black Eyed Peas, Massive Attack, Pixies, The Thrills, The Beta Band, Starsailor, PJ Harvey, Keane, The Darkness, Muse, Snow Patrol, N*E*R*D, Franz Ferdinand, Goldfrapp, Pink, Funeral For A Friend, The Zutons, Razorlight, British Sea Power, The Shins, The Killers, Danko Jones, Scissor Sisters Dogs Die In Hot Cars, Glitterati, The Cribs, Speedway, Rodrigo Y Gabriela, and Mull Historical Society.
The festival takes place on July 10-11 at Balado, by Kinross in Scotland.
