A Dutch priest has admitted making a hoax bomb threat to stop a Madonna concert.
Madonna’s ‘Confessions on a Dancefloor’ tour has caused worldwide controversy because of the mock crucifixion featured in the act.
Earlier concerts in Italy and Germany were the sources of much protest, with shows in Amsterdam taking place on Sunday and Monday.
Police say that they received a hoax call about the Dutch shows and managed to trace the number back to the priest.
It is believed to be the priest’s first ever offence and this may be a mitigating factor when he comes back for sentencing.
The prosecutor’s office spokesman Robert Muelenbroaek said: “We take bomb threats seriously, but in this case it was clear very quickly that it was not real."
Madonna plays her final European tour date in Moscow next week.
